Every year after Thanksgiving, many people's thoughts turn to Christmas. Is the moment when professing Christians are supposed to focus on Jesus Christ. After all, is the "Christ mass" season!
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, holly wreaths, decorated trees, mistletoe, season's greetings music season, "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire" and Santa Claus are associated with this holiday. They bring good feelings to celebrate that.
I grew up in a family that kept Christmas, and was a big event in our home each year. We went to any of the usual trimmings of this occasion. On December 24, the excitement grew with each passing minute. My parents still prepared black coffee for Santa just before sending to bed. I always wondered how they knew Santa liked coffee black, like my parents liked them. After going to bed on Christmas Eve, I could not sleep or feel like getting up in the morning to see all that "Santa" had brought me.
Christmas is considered by many to be a wonderful time, focusing on giving the participants, family togetherness, beautiful music and decorations, feasting on special foods and singing Christmas carols around the neighborhood (as did my family every year). All this is supposed to be about the worship of Christ. Without doubt, the Bible teaches us to do this, right?
Why people think that Christmas is wonderful? Certainly a wonderful feeling for me. I trusted what my parents told me. I had no reason to doubt them. They were just showing me what their parents taught them. I never questioned the true origin of Christmas!
Most people never think about why they believe what they believe or do what they do. We live in a world filled with customs, but few try to understand its origin. In general, accept without question. Most people, basically doing what everyone else does, because it is easy and natural!
We will carefully examine the roots of Christmas. Let's see why people follow the customs associated with it. Why is held on 25 December? Why the early New Testament Church keep it? This booklet is full of facts of history that, when placed together, paint a picture.
